In principle, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not object to diplomatic representations with a large number of au pair candidates having the candidates assess their knowledge of German elsewhere, provided that appropriate external language controllers based on the spot are set up (e.g. Goethe-Institut.B). Outsourcing these evaluations would significantly reduce the workload of missions. In the Netherlands, the au pair stay is a cultural exchange programme. It must be confirmed by an au pair agency, officially recognised by the Dutch Immigration Office (IND). Please contact your agency to get the standard contract. Unfortunately, there is no official au pair contract for Australia. Therefore, we recommend that you download the official European Au Pair contract and adapt it to your needs. By signing the letter of invitation for an au pair and the accompanying contract, the host family undertakes to take out insurance for the au pair and to cover the costs of this insurance. Please use the official au pair contract for Liechtenstein.

In accordance with Article 12 of the Employment Regulation, the duration of the au pair`s employment may be maintained for a maximum of one year. The minimum duration of the au pair stay is six months to take into account the objectives of the au pair`s stay, namely to allow young people to stay in the host country in order to learn more about the culture and lifestyle of the host country and to improve their language skills.
